Will Nascar ever go back to using the other car brands?

Hi,I did the following:
Q&A: Will Nascar ever go back to using the other car brands?5 Will Nascar ever go back to using the other car brands?
The pictures have nothing to do with the content!!

As lately as 2003, or possibly 2004, Nascar was using Pontiacs in there lineup of cars for Cup races. And I know a long time ago, they also used Buick’s. Do you think that they will ever use these car brands again at the Cup level in the near future, or do they have exclusive contracts now with Chevy, Toyota, Dodge, and Ford?

NASCAR has nothing to say about it. Period. They used to race Oldsmobiles & Chryslers to. Olds doesn’t exist, not made anymore. It’s up to GM & Chrysler. GM is the brand you are referring to.
If Mitsubishi wants to get in, they just have to bring mega-bucks.

it is hart to tell cause it costs the company x number of money to be in nascar and i would probably not count on them returning

Answer by nscrgurl88
It could happen, you never know. I just don’t see it happening in the near future.

Not with the economy the way it is now. NASCAR only provides the rules for the platform. It’s up to the manufacturers and teams to decorate it the way they want.

GM was loosing too much money trying to research and develop 2 makes. That is why they dropped Pontiac from NASCAR. With the COT it would be easier, but the Big 3 are in so much financial trouble, I highly doubt they’d ever run more than 1 make.

No. I think Chevy, Toyota, Dodge, and Ford are here to stay. And the rest are a thing of the past.

With Buick and Pontiac both being a part of GM I don’t think they will come back to NASCAR. Pontiac decided awhile back to put more resources into their NHRA program and that has worked out pretty good for them. Buick’s market is not really your typical race fan, whatever THAT is. I don’t think they would get the return on their investment that would be needed to justify it.

Your question does not include Nascar. It is GM’s decision if they want to run Buicks and Pontiacs again. I think they should to get their brands out.

Answer by Loganofan
It depends on the car companies not NASCAR

Answer by Storm
I think the only possibility would be a Pontiac (like a G8– gosh that is a sweet car). However, then I get to thinking– Pontiac is GM and GM has Chevy in Nascar already–so it would be competition within competition.

You never know what the future holds though.

What do you think? Answer below!

They should start using GMC and kick Toyota out.

Personally, I can’t wait for Volvo to get into NASCAR (sarcasm)…with Brian France in charge anything can happen.

im not sure if there is an exact contract but theres obviously an agreement going on and but i think that you wont see any more than 1 make come from GM like pontiac, and chevy, or from ford like, form and Lincoln.. get my drift (not such a great example) but hope i was helpful

Like others have said, I doubt, with the manufacturers being in financial straits now, and with the COT being pretty much set independent of the car makes, that we’ll see those old brands such as Pontiac, Plymouth, Buick, or Mercury in Cup. Mark my words, the next car make they’re going to introduce to NASCAR will be Honda. They’re already in IRL and F1, and are quite popular consumer cars. And, as blasphemous as this may seem to most of you, I can’t wait to see the Civic/Accord COT. (I still prefer Fords though.)

Well GM owns Pontiac & Buick as well as Chevy so in 03 they dropped the Pontiac in favour of their more reputable Chevy.

I think any manufacturer, once they meet NASCAR requirements could compete in NASCAR, up to a certain point. For example even though the NASCAR version of Pontiac Grand Prix was no longer factory supported after the 2003 season there were some teams still using it in 2004.
With Toyota coming in, it wouldn’t surprise me down the road in a couple of years if Honda & Nissan were enter. (but I think a requirement is that the car is either an American manufacturer or the car competing is manufactured in the US.)
