We took our car in for the 60k mile maintenance, which included an oil/filter change, transmission drain/refill, and radiator drain/refill. While it was being worked on, the mechanic told us the water pump was cracked and we would need to replace the S-Belt soon, so we got both taken care of.
This was less than 48 hours ago. The car has been driven at least 50 miles and started/stopped at least 8 times. When I started the car on my way home tonight, I heard one of the belts screech for a split second (I am positive it was a belt). Everything was fine on the 20-min. drive home, until I was pulling in to the garage. I started to smell a burning coming through the vents (I had the heater on). I got out to see if the engine was smoking. It may have been, but it was a cold night so it could have been mist. I did smell the burning outside, though. What could it be? Spilled oil should have already burned off, right? Is the belt not tight enough? Was something not reassembled properly?
