Q&A: What’s wrong if my car cd player makes a noise as if powering on, but the display stays dead?

I installed a refurbished car cd player but had to use wiring instructions from unreliable online sources. Now when I turn the key in the ignition, I hear the unit powering on, but the display stays dead. Did I install the radio wrong, or is the unit defective?

Could be a mix of both, take it to a car audio shop, and see what they say.
