I am having a debate with my mom about what cost more to own. with a car there is cost of car, registration, insurance, fuel cost, oil change, and maintenance. with a dog, purchase of dog, vaccination, vet checkups, medication if needed, food, toys, beds, small stuff, care, if travel kennel or plane ticket.

A:               Both are expensive but on average I would say the car is more costly for maintanance, gas, insurance.
A vet visit is less than a tuneup, a bag of dogfood costs the same as a tank of gas but lasts longer. Shots are cheaper than an oil change. Pet insurance is cheaper than car insurance. And dogs dont have that so milage based required maintanance.
However both can be quite expensive if something major goes wrong. Emergency vets are not cheap, and neither is body work or a fried electrical harness.

A:                     Def a car. I know this, I’m out at least 300 a month (not including gas) just payments and insurance.. Dog… not so much and there are 5 of them.
And my answer includes the fact that I have a toy poodle that is groomed monthly, and a dog that has had cancer, and in turn had a rear leg amputated because of that cancer.
And rabies shots, and licensing fees, and regular checkups.
Just to replace a tire on my car (honda) costs over a hundred dollars.

A:             Depending on the dog and his health, you will probably spend around $800 to $1,000 a year on everything he needs. That may be high for smaller dogs (I have always owned big ones & spoiled them with lots of gifts).
Cars can cost that much just to fuel & maintain. Besides, it won’t love you unconditionally and listen to everything you say without interruption.

A:              Well, I think that they are the same amount. I own a dog and my sisters own a car and they are partly the same amount. For dog, you need vet check-ups and shots. So I think that they are the same amount.

A:                It cost more to get a car because, you have to pay installment price and then the maintenance of the car and then when the car brakes, you have to pay major prices on it. The dog don’t have that trouble at all.

A:                     Since you said “cost more to own” I won’t include the purchase price, but still, maintenance and insurance puts the car over the top. With gas about $40 a week, insurance and property tax on one $1,100 together, per year……I spend quite a bit on my dogs but the car wins.

If you buy a 19th century japanese car and a french bulldog, then you should consider this problem.

A:             a car because you will have to have gas, registration, tags once a year, insurance, being able to clean it, tires, and if anything goes wrong it could cost alot to fix it depending on the problem.
A dog just shots, food, toys and stuff, beds…etc but if you add it up it won’t cost a lot once most of the important stuff is done. I have 6 dogs and 2 cats and a truck and my truck cost more in a week then my dogs do in one month.

I own both and I would go with the car on this one. My dog did get sick recently and it cost me about 900.00 in the past month to get him better but worth every penny.
