While I’m at it, what’s meant to be the speed limit in SA? I heard there wasn’t one until the mid-80′s…

Hmmm… Of all I’ve seen, it has to be Ford Mercury… Next, it would be Mercedes. About speed limits, there is no one to monitor you in the midst of the long deserted stretches… Do all you can to tear the road apart. Once inside a city, its no more than 120 km/h. I visit SA very often, so we pump the most out of our car…

Saudi Arabia is the largest country in the Middle East in terms of population and has the largest vehicle market. Sedans are the most popular passenger vehicle (75%) followed by 4 wheel drive (4X4s) vehicles (20%) with ownership of 4X4s higher in rural areas (27% own a 4X4). Japanese brands lead with close to two-thirds of the market followed by American brands (~30%). European and Korean brands account for less than 10% each.

Speed limits are (allegedly) 45kph in urban areas and 80 to 120kph on motorways.

top selling cars brands in saudi arabia are the following(not by order):
ford : crown victoria, explorer and expedition
gmc : suburban, yukon,
chevrolet: caprice, lumina
toyota: camry, land cruiser, corolla
nissan: maxima, patrol, armada
honda: civic, accord
also now daihatsu, kia and hyundai are moving up in the middle class sedan category.

then comes the luxury segment:
lexus is THE market leader : LS, ES, GS, IS, GX, SC models
then you got mercedes (s classes mostly) and bmw (7 series, 5 series, x5, x6, 3series) are pretty strong
audi (a8, a6) is moving up in the world
porsche is pretty strong with the cayenne, lots of turbos these days as well
range rover has a good position as well

jaguar is crap, infinity is not moving, cadillac lost a lot of market share, lost of exotic cars (lambos, maybachs, SLRs, bentleys), lots of H2s.
