Q&A: What car brands are hot in Japan?
The pictures have nothing to do with the content!!
The public perception about car brands differ from market to market, in US Buick it’s a car for grandpa, in China is the greatest car you can get, in the EU it’s nonexistent, Lexus is the best luxury car in the US, it’s seen as a re-badged Toyota by many Europeans. So, how do the Japanese people see American brands, domestic brands and European brands? What demographic share those brands have in Japan?

Depends on if you mean hot,or popular, The small engine “K” class cars are very popular, because of the cost to register them and the lower annual road tax, and less strict proof of parking requirement. I just bought one of the new Suzuki waganR K class cars. It was one million, two hundred and thirty thousand yen, or about ,000.00 U.S. dollars, and the dealer took care of every thing, registration, inssurance, maintenance package.
P.S. any type of sport car for the young and rich,or imported car like BMW, mini coop, and for most people, small cars for the practical. Just don’t expect to find any places to do maintenance on an imported car.

BMW or Mercedez are always seen as cool in Japan.
And Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini are cooler. But they are too expensive. So it’s not common to see people who have those brands.
American cars are not popular at all in Japan.
Recently, Toyota Lexus is gaining more popularity than before.
