Question: What are some reliable used car brands?

I’m a teenager looking to buy a good car with my own money. It has to be used because I don’t have tens of thousands of dollars to spend. I’m looking for a brand and/or make that will remain safe/fuel efficient/and in good working condition even after being driven for a while by the previous owner. I want it to work well and to not break down.

In summary, what are some brands and makes/models that will perform well as used cars?

Ten years ago I would have said Honda without a doubt. I will still say honda even though
(IMO) Ford and Chevy have almost caught up quality. Like the Ford focus which is a good car for cheap (my sister has one and has no problems). Domestic parts are also almost half the price.

Most German and Japanese brands are very reliable.
A Honda Civic, A Volkswagen Golf or a small Mazda will do you just great as a 1st Car.

All of them are good if they have been well maintained.

None of them are good if they have been abused and neglected.

Shop for a used car based on the condition of the vehicle, not by the emblem on the grill.

Honda (Sedan- Civic) or Toyota (Sedan- Camry; SUV- 4Runner)

My family car is a 1996 Toyota 4Runner and it has over 200,000 miles on it. It still runs perfectly fine.
