Sofa SaverPrepper’s Pantry: Can Rotator Cabinet

About two months ago, I watched a video by youtuber: landoftheblueflower. She had converted an old dresser into a can rotator that she put behind the sofa in her living area. When I showed it to my husband, and told him that I needed 1, he got busy. We had been fortunate sufficient to run into a cabinet maker who was clearing out some of his odd pieces and we bought a closet insert from him that was an unused piece from a construction job he had accomplished. My husband disassembled the piece and utilised it as a beginning point for this cabinet. He utilized three/eight inch plywood to make shelves and firring strips to make the runners the shelves sit on. The channels are made by employing drywall corner that is stapled onto the plywood. He has made the shelves with a three 1/2 inch drop to facilitate downhill roll. We had been able to accomodate 4 shelves. With the feet, it is approximatley 33 inches tall, it is 18 inches deep and seven feet long. He has faced it on the front with bead board and trimmed it out with half round molding. The back has been left open to accomodate for effortless access in the event of can catastrophy. He has placed a door on the “loading end” of the cabinet with a latch. The “unloading end” has been left open, although we have deemed putting a door on it. The leading has been fitted with a stunning piece of extended pine trimmed out with frame molding and mitered corners. In all, I am thrilled with the outcome, this is beautiful and practical. Now I am capable to free up lots of space in my

See my previous comment. My son says $300 because I have to pay him. If you could do it yourself and have a piece of furniture to take apart and reuse it would be cheaper.

My son said it will cost at least $300 to build if I pay him. He isn’t interested in doing it for free.He is currently an unemployed carpenter/construction worker with a wife and baby. I cannot ask him to do it for free. And he needs a router bit and something else to do it.

@chrislika1 Hi, thanks for the nice comment! We estimate that it would cost around $100.00 to build this. We actually built one for a friend of ours and that is around what it cost. The beauty of this design is that you can make it as long or short as you like to put it in an area in your home that will accomodate it. So for example, if you have a 4 foot space, you can make one to fit there. You will have less storage, but some is better than nothing! Thanks again! Noreen

@TheBigpunn421 I beg to differ! I can store over 500 cans in this cabinet. But if you have a better design, I think everyone would like to have you share it.

Thanks for the comment! Actually I do only put one thing per chute in the rotator. It object is to have enough of each item for a year, that way I save money by purchasing on sale and I never have to worry that I am running out of something. For instance I have one section for canned peaches, one for diced tomatoes, one for tuna, one for mayo or anything that we use that we use a lot, I even have one for lemonade drink mix, because it fits. I have canned veggies and family size soups too.

Nice. What if you want the can in the middle? Do you have to unload half the cans? I assume they are not all the same.
