Just in time for the begin of summer time, unleaded gasoline prices have dropped back down beneath $ 4 a gallon in the Inland Empire. The gas price is down from $ four.07 one particular week ago and $ 4.20 a month ago, the website reported. Even so, the cost is still far above what it was a year ago — $ two.99.

1992 Dodge B-150 Cargo Van that I bought from a former employer. Had been seeking for a way to camp economically without having getting within a tent. I call Van my “Steel (rain-proof) Tent”. It took about a month to finish with three electric circuits and lighting, plumbing for outside water supply and drain, insulation, ceiling, panelling, flooring, and cabinetry, which includes a two-burner propane stove. It has been wired for four speaker surround with AM/FM/CD and cable and/or antenna tv with DVD/VCR. The sofa drops down into a double bed with plenty of storage underneath, such as a large drawer for miscellaneous camping equipment. Being tall (6’2″) I really should have looked for a van with a raised roof, but Van serves really effectively as is in spite of being refused by a couple of campgrounds that will not enable me to sleep inside. I carry a tiny tent to appease their guidelines. Effortless and fun to drive, Van goes numerous areas that a huge motorhome can not and has been a dependable runner, only needing a handful of repairs and gets an astounding 18 mpg on the highway! I can tow a tiny trailer, but haven’t but and often a rooftop cargo carrier (looks weird but serves its purpose). Thanks for looking – be confident to leave a comment – however absurd remarks, derogatory comments and foul language will be deleted.

nice
That is some serious good building you done there!
cool!
Awesome vid. Very nice job on the conversion. I have been dreaming of a similar project…*sigh*.
Thanks BigNutty. It was a lot of fun and the van converted has been a pleasure to use for camping trips!
looks good great job on the conversion
I got my before pictures just gotta get around to makeing a slideshow with them
Be sure to share your video with us.
I just got a 84 ford econoline passenger van and just started the work on it to convert it. Its got about 72,000 miles on it
As I recall, I got it on sale at Sears, but that was five years ago – $99.00. Try an outdoor store.
I wondered where you bought that tent? Was it pretty expensive?
I’ve driven over 19,000 miles touring the USA. Haven’t had time to post the trip pics yet. You’ll enjoy the van for it’s versatility going places a motorhome can’t! Good luck!
I just posted my first vid here. Yours is a lot more finished, what with the music and all, but I’ll learn. I liked the tent and lights. My van is a 2000 Ford E350 diesel cargo. I’m debating making a golf campervan out of it. Right now, I’m on my last month or so before retirement. Then, God willing, I’m off to see the USA.
Nice.
Bravo!
You’re welcome, and thanks for the nice comment. Good luck with your project. Be sure to share your conversion with us – I’d like to see how the finished job looks.
great job!! i got an 86 b 150 with the slant6 and the 4 on the floor manual.u actually gave me a few ideas i can use thanks!
I searched for a hinge-mounted rear spare tire mount, but couldn’t find what I wanted – one that would allow the left side door to stay closed while opening only the right. Still looking. For now the spare tire is stored underneath the bed, just behind the driver’s seat. Awkward to get at, I know, but I also try to keep good tires on the van so I’ll never need it. LOL. Hope to see some pictures of your van conversion some day. Let me know how you’re making out ith it.
What did you do with your spare tire ?
Thanks for the nice comments. It doesn’t show in the video, but when the futon mattress is removed the base is split so the front can be rolled out then the hinged back drops down to form the base for the mattress. It is very comfortable!
I like the way you built the fold out bed. I am planning to build a very similiar van. 1987 dodge b150 w/slant six. I am going to do very similiar to what you have. Have camped alot in vans but never really went all out and converted one to make it comfortable and useable. I have also owned many travel trailers and motorhomes. They are nice and spacious, but not nearly as convenient to travel with as a converted van. A van like yours is so much easier to deal with on the road. Keep On Travelin !
Very nice job.
