We have just been on a 4 day trip to Gascoyne River area, to assist a botanist with a flora study on Calandrinia.

Our first night’s camp was at the Galena Bridge. The Ptilotis macrocephalus or Featherheads were quite thick at the campsite. It was a cold night with ice on the windscreen the morning.

The ‘wildflowers’ are quite spectacular this year.

Their tent was bigger, but since I had mine to myself I think mine might have wound up being roomier.

With two months to go before heading off on my Southern Upland Way walking trip, I’ve been busy collecting camping gear. This week the tent arrived and on Saturday I tried it out for the first time.

Now that’s what I call a fantastic camping venue. Lovely carpet of Ptilotus.

all sounds fantastic – what a great camping spot. I’d love to go north right now, but I’m grounded for a while

Just came back from the Pilbara a couple of weeks ago and am definitely wishing i was back there. The wildflowers were starting to show even in late July, so i can imagine they must be more or less in full bloom now. Ahhhh to run away back up there again!
