it’s an 08 corolla and i take great care of it..regular oil changes etc. But the other day my ‘maintance’ light came on. I’d gone to get a diagnostic test but the service guy tod me that it won’t let me know of anything wrong. He says the diagonostic test only works when the ‘check engine soon’ light is on.
WHAT ARE SOME REASONS FOR WHY THE MAINTANANCE LIGHT COMES ON?
My tire has a slow sleek and the air pressure light came on and soon after the maintenance light came on….could that be the problem!
HELP…a woman that knows nothing about cars!

Hello, This light is built into onboard computer to remind you to go to dealer to get recommended services done. Any shop near you can do the service work if needed. Much cheaper. If a shop tells you they don’t know what this light is and can’t turn it off, find a new shop! There’s nothing wrong with your car. It’s just a reminder. Hope this helps.
“General small scale mechanics have limited experience with the electrics and control systems of modern cars. It is becoming more common for the car to be designed by the manufacturer so only a reputable dealer of that car make can do repairs and services to it.
rubbish and untrue.
But as everyone has stated, it’s just a reminder light.
Its a maintenance remainder light telling you need to schedule the next oil change and service, possibly the last place that did the oil change forgot to reset the light. (if your maintenance is current)
PS.The light on my car tells me if I am due for a simple oil change or a more thorough service.
it is for oil changes nothing to worry about you can turn it off yourself it tells you how in your owners manual
“OMG”, read the owner’s manual that is in the glove box.
it means change your oil
The DLC ( Data Link Connector) connects to the computer and reads all monitoring signals. A good parts store can read what is stored in the computer memory for you at no cost. “maintenance light” is generally reset at your service time. If this light has not been reset it could be that it has finally reached what it believes to be a critical time period. The sensors in your valve stems could be what set the light and resetting or calibrating them to read correctly can only be done with a high dollar computer. I suggest you visit the parts store and then let us know what they said.
Do you still have warranty with the car??? Take it to a Toyotay dealer and get their mechanic to give it a service. It will only cost $75 give or take.

It dosnt sound like anything serious….good luck!!
PS: I tell women this all the time, when you get a car serviced, have confidence to ask the mechanic/service man, exactly what is required and what the assiciated cost will be(get him to physically show you what is wrong with the car) . Then tell him you will get quotes from other garages aswell. It just reduces the chances that they are going to take you for a ride because you don’t really know anything about cars!
