Hello,
I recently helped pay for half of my new car. However, I did not get to choose it. My mom went out and picked a civic coupe in the girliest color. Im a 17 year old male in my senior year at high school and Im planning on majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I pay for the insurance (the really expensive coverage which my mom controls) and gas, as well as any repairs needed such as accidents or maintenance, and I simply do not like this car, its small and weak and really, well, to put it frank, girly! I tried convincing her that I could change it for a 4 door sedan for cheaper insurance and as an extra on the side, get a bigger engine. She doesnt ever want to talk about this issue. ever. Even after I maintained a 3.8 gpa in school, a job, play lacrosse for the school, and president of the automotive club. How can I get her to care about my opinion? or atleast talk to me about the subject?
Thanks in advance

Have you considered telling your mom what you have told us here?
I mean i know you’ve gone into depth with her about the pros of trading your car, but I think that if you try telling her the emotional side of it I’m sure she will take it into a whole new perspective. Tell her that your not some Bum striving to work at McDonalds. You’ve done everything in your power to be where you are right now. You have achieved more then your expectations with out any sort of reward or motivation from them. Tell her that it would only be fare for you to choose a car to your liking within their personal financial comfort zone. But then again your asking for a faster car so id suggest keeping that detail to your-self if or when your car shopping once again. I mean its not like your mom will know how much HP the car will have unless you told her.
You’re 17. When you turn 18 and buy you own car, you can complain, and pay your own bills. Right now Mom rules the roost. After all didn’t she take care of you for the past 17 years? Who pays the rent, buys the groceries, pays the cable and cell phone bills? You cannot honestly tell us that you have been doing all this for very long.
I would like to suggest to try to get as much information as you could before making up your mind,herehttp://www.CarInsuranceTip.info
is a very resourceful one.
Since you pay the maintenance and upkeep, do an engine swap, turbocharge it, and paint it Bad A** Black with rattle cans. Then your mom will hate it! Or wait till you’re eighteen, (refusing to drive the girly car in the meantime, I mean, if you can get there in the girly car in fifteen minutes, you can get there on a cool bicycle in thirty, right?) buy your own stinking car, and she has no say. By the way, if you don’t drive it, don’t pay the ridiculous insurance, either. Since it’s her car, she can worry about that. Personally, at seventeen, if my mom had picked a crappy car out for me, I would have refused to have anything to do with it, and damn sure wouldn’t have put a dime of my money into it. Instead I bought….a fifteen year old Duster. Hey, it was a clunker that I had to work on all the time, with no a/c, and two windows that didn’t roll down, but it was mine, and my choice
