I have a 1999 Chevy Cavalier and the CD player in my car sucks!!! It always makes my CDs skip even AFTER I clean the cds and then use a laser disc cleaner. Any suggestions, other than installing a new one?? I really like my radio and don’t want to go through the hassle of installing a new one

You hit it on the head…actually the laser in the player is an old style, you do need to replace the whole unit. They can be had for very little money and are generally easy to install.
Look for a unit that scans all forms of cd’s cdr’s etc. It will stop skipping. Try one of your Cd’s that skips when you go to the store. Go to Wal-Mart or K-Mart or one of the flea markets to pick up a cheap unit. Try it first at the places I listed. then look at the flea market. Or just buy the one you try.

Sorry but you have practically no more options here.

If the radio you are talking about is the factory delco one… then no, there isn’t much you can do with it. They are not the best to begin with, and they don’t hold up as good as aftermarket onces. The down side with that car is… if your door chime comes from the drivers side door speaker, then it will require a special wire harness. They range anywhere from -0 depends on the quality and where you go for the harness. Just about every other car on the market takes a harness. Sorry general motors customers… lol

Good Luck.

try bringing it to a service center for a check-up, it’s probably just dust that has accumulated over the years that’s causing some mechanical parts in the player to fail
