Help Me Diagnose My Cars Poor Acceleration Problem?

-87 Camry LE Automatic transmission
-Lite engine oil leak
-A month ago only had poor acceleration when going uphills but now its kinda dragging butt on flat.
-To go uphill I usually have to give it a lot of gas and the rpm will jump to about 3 to 4 then it’ll feel like it shifted and then I can go easy with the gas and it’ll accelerate. But now it feels sluggish.
-When accelerating it makes a kind of wizzing sound. Not unlike that of a electric R/C car. Wines but not loud.
-Finally when I turn off the car it makes a sizzling sound near the engine area. Like a lite drizzle of water splashing on a hot pan.
I took really good care of this car, mostly user level maintenance stuff. It ran really well and I would just like to have an idea of what it is and see if I can tinker with it. Its the first car I ever owned but I’m not going to take it to a mechanic because I don’t think its worth the money to fix this car. But if I can do it myself as a hobby and only pay for the parts then that’ll be worth it.

Cheapest place to start would be the fuel filter.

I have a 1996 mitsubishi galant that had similar problem. I had it hooked up to a diagnostic computer & it showed it needed a small gear type part for acceleration. I had the part replaced and now acceleration is great

Take it to a dealer and get a free estimate on what needs to be done.
