Q&A–: So, what is your Hunting Automobile? ?
This is one particular of the queries I do not believe I’ve ever noticed in the Hunting section, or if it was posted I missed it.
My main hunting vehicle is a 2000 Jeep Cherokee four.. The XJ square physique, not a Grand. It was my principal ride for a handful of years but now that it is been replaced by a new sedan for perform and all around town, I’ve been generating it far more suitable for the true rough back-country of the Southwest mountains. I ripped out all the upholstery behind the front seats and sprayed it with Rhino liner and additional a few drain holes so it can be hosed out. I additional an gear box where the rear seat properly was and permanent lockable gun rack on the inside roof for 4 rifles. Did some power train mods and lifted it a modest two.5 inches, so I could stuff some significant tires underneath her for additional traction and ground clearance. Additional a hitch and some tow hooks and some recovery gear. Then there the Sony CD player and amp for some ear-pounding metal, to get you in the mood throughout that cold 3am drive.
At my place in the nation I maintain an old 81 Dodge step-side pickup that has noticed far better days but that Slant 6 keeps on smoking along. It is largely for acquiring firewood but I’ll take it to choose up a deer as extended as we are not going in rough nation.
So, do you have a committed hunting car or are you just making use of the pickup?
Gotta really like these Jeep XJ bodies. This is my second, the 84 lasted 16 years and over 235k. Forgot about the two way also. I have the stock steel wheels with 31×10.5s on them. With the 2.5 in lift, they do rub some. Rather than lift larger, I am probably just going to take the Sawz-all to the fenders.
Boots are not automobiles my fellow hunters. Do you hunt outdoors your back door? If so, lucky you. Some of us really drive to the hunt, that was the question.
BTW: Danner’s, 12 EE. Really like em.

I have a 2007 F-150 Supercrew FX4 that is my everyday driver and my hunting vehicle. After that, I hoof-it. If my truck can’t get all the way where I need to go, I’m in good enough shape I can walk and drag out what I have to where I hunt.
I have a 1968 Dodge 4X4 weapons carrier I got from a CAP SQDN that folded. I bought it in 1976 for $ 100.00 It will climb a 49 degree slope I know cause I watched someone else take it up. I did not think it would take the climb. It has an Ambulance body and it is an Energizer Bunny. I live in it during hunting season. I love the old thing. I do not know how many miles it has on it but the engine has 8471 hours. It has a top speed of 60 mph and gets a surprising 18 mpg on and off road. I do not drive it in town so don’t know city. It was probably the best vehicle purchase I ever made. Color is AF Blue with White top w RED CROSS. I have never been pulled over or had anyone complain about me camping in it. I always check with landowner and have never been denied permission. Got to love the old Dodges.
A 1999 Ford F-150 Crew-Cab pickup gets me into the general area, and a pair of LaCrosse boots gets me the rest of the way.
Doc
Mine is a 1997 Ford Ranger STX, fiberglass topper, diggin’ M/S tires, and Lock-out hubs. (I did not like the push-button 4WD from the factory).
After that, Its the Rocky Sport Cornstalker 600 gr. boots!
i am always hunt in the mounting out side Qatar
but when i am in Qatar … i hunt in my GMC Track
its useful !!
Yamaha Rhino, camo, hard top, fold down windshield, camo back tarp. The engine keeps me warm since it is directly under the cab. Ain’t been in a place where my rhino won’t go. I live in southern WV in Hatfield McCoy trail country. The mountains are steep, the winters are bitter cold, and in a bow only county, the bucks are big.
well my Dad has a 2004-2005 (one of the two) Jeep Rubicon with a 3 inch lift, mud tires, 15,000ibs Warn wench. And does it do its job! Then for the tighter spots we have a 1999 Yamaha 600 Grizzly and a 2006 I think Yahmaha 350 Bruin.
My Dad and I hunt in Michigan, Mostly in Atlanta (at the top of the Lower Peninsula) but whenever I go the deer know better so I never see them…But when my Dad goes upnorth to deer hunt with his friends he almost always gets a deer.
