Q&A: Corrosive salt on winter roads – car maintenance?
I just moved into an area (Massachusetts) where the salt on the roads collect significantly on my car when I drive over the plowed roads. Is there anything in particular I need to do to care for my car to prevent corrosion, particularly at the bottom of my car and/or the car’s finish?

suggest to wash it often ,especially the wheel wells ,and between the doors, give vehicle a good wax job, and if not undercoated, suggest to undercoat the frame of the vehicle.

Probably a little late for this year, but look into getting an undercoating on your car. As for the body just keep it as clean as possible. Remove the salt ASAP at a car wash only when temps will remain above freezing for at least a day. Don’t want to freeze things up. You can also wipe it off with soapy water and a sponge if you have a garage. Be careful not to leave water on the garage floor, very slippery. Keep some touch up paint handy to use when weather permits and a good coat of wax couldn’t hurt. Best bet is to sponge it off in a garage, if available. Do not wash as you would in Spring or Summer. If not completely dry it will freeze and cause problems. Look into a block heater also, doesn’t effect the body but will make your life much better during the Winter.
