UPDATE 20100406: I got my automobile! A 2010 plum crazy R/T Classic. www.flickr.com/photos/zombieite/sets/72157623656358847/

Thanks go to Tucson Dodge for letting me take a test drive.

You might be saying to by yourself, more boring car pictures. Why really should I care?

Nicely, if you are not into automobiles, I guess you shouldn’t. But if you like automobiles at all, there is something quite cool going on correct now in American vehicle designs. It really is sad that the companies are tanking just as they were starting up to get it appropriate. I am going to do some cheerleading for them right here, but I assure you I do not function for these vehicle companies, I don’t function for a dealer, I do not know anybody who does, and they undoubtedly aren’t paying me. In reality, I have spent my life hating each and every American auto because the 1981 Chevy Camaro. But I am willing to forgive Detroit for disappointing me for 30 years, and it really is all due to the fact of this vehicle.

1st and foremost, the looks of this one are best. I like the new one even much better than the old a single from 1970. This 1 is a specific edition. It is named the Challenger R/T Classic.

Compromises are involved with any style. I read that the designers of the new Challenger had to fight the advertising team to get permission to be correct to the old style (for instance, all other Dodges have an ugly crosshair grill, but it was omitted from the new Challenger). The designers had been initially shot down on their concept of retro-looking wheels, and instead we got ugly plastic-clad monsters. Exact same with the Challenger script logo from the old days.

But soon after the car was out for a year, the designers had been provided permission to finish what they’d began by developing the R/T Classic package. This model has wheels that are reminiscent of old Cragar rims and the gorgeous script logo has been restored! They’ve even revived the old paint colours and the stripe scheme is practically exactly the identical one they used to use.

We’ve entered a new muscle car era. Events are coming into alignment in a lot as they did in 1969. In 1969, the massive three American car makers all had a number of excellent muscle automobile offerings. Similarly, right now we have the new Muscle Vehicle Wars in which Ford has its retro Mustang, Chevy has its retro-ish Camaro, and Dodge has its retro Challenger. 1969 was a period of significant alter. Right now is as effectively, for better (black president, gay marriage) or worse (absurdly bloated spending bills). Concern for the atmosphere was a new point back then. It’s not new any much more, but the governments of the planet are undoubtedly taking a lot more of an interest in it now. I guess I am ok with that, but I do not like it when they choose on cars. America is automobiles. Vehicles are America. Quit attempting to alter that! Do not really feel guilty about owning and driving your automobile. My father and I disagree on plenty of points, but he instilled a love of automobiles in me that has by no means waned. Vehicles are freedom, independence, and exciting. In the 70s, environmental laws killed the muscle vehicles. There is a great likelihood that the new muscle auto movement will be killed for environmental causes as well. It may possibly never occur yet again.

From here on out, we may be surrounded by dull, disposable, plastic, spaceship-seeking, appliance automobiles. At this point, it is not even clear that the American auto companies will even be in enterprise a lot longer. That shouldn’t cease you from getting this vehicle it ought to encourage you to! This could be the finish of an era, or even the end of the automobile as we know it. We’ve had a good run, and what a way to go out–in a tire-screeching blaze of glory!

This automobile gets greater gas mileage than its ancestor. It emits much much less nasty stuff into the air. It is safer. Even so, it’s also more rapidly and handles corners considerably much better! The only disadvantages to this one are its weight (practically two tons) and the reality that you can’t work on it oneself like you could perform on the old ones. Have you noticed that these days, a &quotmechanic&quot is referred to as a &quottechnician&quot? That is because you’re just as most likely to see your mechanic holding a laptop as you are to see her holding a wrench.

Old muscle vehicles have skyrocketed in value over the past 40 years. They sold for close to K in 1969. Even in a poor economic climate, very good examples sell for hundreds of 1000′s of dollars. Vehicles are notoriously bad investments, even when they go up in worth, due to storage and upkeep fees. But the ridiculous worth of old muscle automobiles signifies there is a demand for some thing that is just not becoming fulfilled with most modern day automobiles. It appears like that message has ultimately gotten via to the auto makers.

If you like Best Gear, verify out this YouTube clip. If you’ve never ever seen Jeremy Clarkson review a auto, let me summarize. He has been reviewing cars for decades and is known as the king of bombastic hyperbole, hyperactivity, and exaggeration. This critique is completely various. View it to see how.

This is why I want the new Challenger R/T Classic. Like any American vehicle, it’s full of quirks and annoyances, and it will probably invest far more time in the shop than in my driveway. But I am quite positive that when I am driving it I’ll be 6 again, dragging my Speed Racer Hot Wheels vehicle along the carpet, creating vroom-vroom noises, ascending via an unattainable number of gear modifications, climbing to an unattainable speed.

I could never have this possibility once more. Clarkson lived through the Malaise Era of the 70s and watched all the world’s most lovely vehicles die. He’s been about the block a few occasions. If he’s concerned that this is the end, I’m concerned that this is the finish.

Here’s what I felt when I first took an up-close look at the new Challenger:

Removing a starboard engine from the Lake Express higher speed ferry dockside at the Milwaukee terminal in May 2011. A replacement engine was delivered and lowered into the engine area Could 8th.

The ship was intended to swap engines and do key component perform although sitting at dock – getting rid of the need to have for shipyard facilities as is was the situation with traditional Lake Michigan ferries.

Two engines were swapped using this method each of the final two winters.

This dockside maintenance is feasible due to the fact the ship is fitted with “soft patches” in its auto deck. This enables Lake Express maintenance crew to unbolt the engines (and generators, gear boxes, mufflers, etc.) and get rid of/repair/replace as necessary.

With a replacement engine in hand, the complete method can be completed in as few as 5 days.

Let’s hope it’s the end of an era…
I like this car design, but we are in the 21st Century, and car makers, governments and people in general have to search for alternative, ald less contaminant powerplants. In meantime, car makers can build more functional and efficient car engines.
Enormous engines are not the only way to get power to make it a truly sport car….

I LOVE that color BLUE – cool car. I own a v6 Inferno red SE Challenger and LOVE it. If they made it a hybrid it’d be even more awesome.

May muscle cars live on! I have one of these on the way; first thing I’m going to do is blow the doors off the first global warming car I see.
