Q&A: Cleaning car battery terminals with battery cleaner spray?
The pictures have nothing to do with the content!!
I have a battery cleaner and acid finder spray that I wanted to use to clean my badly corroded car battery and terminals. The instructions say to spray the cleaner on the battery, wait 5 minutes, and then rinse it off. The instructions say nothing about disconnecting the battery before doing so. Do I risk getting electrocuted if I spray and rinse or should I take the battery off and then do the spray and rinse?

you wont get electrocuted, and you don’t have to disconnect anything, but i recommend that you disconnect the battery cables and take the battery out on the floor and then spray it where it wont splash everywhere, i washed my battery in my truck and it got on the engine and plastic pieces and it looks brown now and i cant take it off, but my battery is clean. good luck.

Yup,…like the other person said, take it out first if you are going to be spraying, and you might take a look at your cables to see if they are bad also, you can’t clean those, but a new set will run you about -.00 tops. Then coat them at the posts with anti-corrision .

disconnect the negative (black) cable, spray the cable end, and the battery terminal, then disconnect the positive (red) cable, spray the cable end and terminal, wait awhile hose off excess, let dry well, you need to clean the inside of the cable and terminals more than anything else, but save your money, next time, just use baking soda and water, this dissolves battery acid fine. you can also dip a stiff wire brush in soda pop like coke or mt dew or 7up in a pinch and just clean the ends and terminals too.

You can clean your battery either way. I have done both without problem. Just spray it on and if there is a lot of crude use a brush to break up the big stuff. Then spray again let it sit, and spray it off with the garden hose. Most of the time there isn’t enough water puddled on the battery to do anything. You can touch both terminals with your hand and don’t get shocked.

Bobby does idt say to change your brake pads? No?
Spray it on hose it off. this is not rocket science. NEXT time save your money and wash it off with jot water only. Or add some baking soda to hot water apply to ball and wait 5 min then wash of with hot water this is better than that stuff you bought.
Put a little motor oil around the terminals .
