@sw9301 all of them will get clogged with time, and they all have a bi-pass valve in the bottom, when they are plugged it opens the bi-pass valve which none of gets filtered, i am a mechanic i see so many filters from day to day and they all work fine, maybe a high end in a fancy sports car, but it dont make a lick of difference on your everyday pick up/car

@sw9301 an oil filter is an oil filter, they all do the same job, and you would never be able to tell the difference between i high and low end filter performance wise, i guarantee it

You dont need to prime it, that few seconds it wont have pressure will not hurt your motor, and you cant turn the filter tight enough by hand to damage your threads

Hi Jdub. They are really crappy especially considering you can get an excellent oil filter like a purolator pure one for the same price. You can go to endless sites and read the reviews on Fram oil filters. They use extremely cheap materials inside the filter. I’ve actually opened one up and the paper filter was unattached from the crappy cardboard end cap. Just a little FYI. there is a guy on Youtube who has some pretty funny reviews on Fram. It’s known as the orange can of death.

@carven2004eca The oil filter is fairly easy to find, it usualy has a colored label on it, and is near the oil pan, which is on the bottom side of the engine.

Fail you should always take the oil cap off first to help it vent and to make sure that you can add oil after draining

@locd2death its best to get a new filter. oil filters run low there cheep and would cost around 3$ and up mine only cost me 3 bucks and like 8 for oil cost me like 20$ bucks because i didnt have to take it in to a shop it would cost me more so think on getting a new filter because u dont want to mess up your car then u would have to take it in and just htink how much u would of saved if u just got that new filter.

Is it safe to do this without gloves? I once saw a tow truck guy help someone with a battery and I think he tightened it (using his bare hands) and there was powdery stuff around it. He didn’t seem concerned about it, but wouldnt getting it on the person’s keys from his hands to start up after messing with that be a problem later on for the owner of the vehicle? Just wondering.

@spirit774 I guess if you really want to do a thorough clean of the terminals you could take off the wires and clean all the contact points then reattach.

@strikeagle1 you mean hydrogen right? not helium. theres a reason you don’t put fire near a battery, hydrogen is flammable.

@unaffiliatedperson Battery residue is an acid. Coca Cola is an acid. No reaction, you need a base like baking soda to neutralize the acid.

  41. z3r0zx1's Gravatar z3r0zx1
    03/10/2011 at 6:42 pm | Permalink

This is right, but you should apply the baking soda with a damp cloth, and when rinsing it off, only use a tiny bit of water, not just throw some on like what this guy did, and rub the battery with a dry cloth to remove water. I know water doesn’t affect the battery largely, but I dont like the fact that water is entering the engine bay, all you got it paint protecting it, and sometimes you scratch the bay paint with a tool or something.
